LIMITED to 12 contestants.
Contestants must be at least 18 years of age.
Contestants must check-in at the main stage at 1:00 PM, contest starts at 1:30 PM.
Contestants must wait for the start signal before touching the crab claws. Touching food prior to the start signal will produce an immediate disqualification.
Interfering with another competitor in any way will produce an immediate disqualification.
Each competitor will begin the contest with 1 pound Stone Crab claws and a cracking utensil.
The object is to crack and eat 1 pound of stone crab claws within the fastest time.
Contestants may eat either sitting or standing in their designated areas.
Contestants may eat their food with or without any condiments and with or without beverage.
Each competitor will be provided an empty container at the contest's start which he or she will use to discard all shells. These remnants of Stone Crab claws will be inspected by the judges for any remaining meat left in claw and will be deducted 30 seconds for each claw with meat remaining. Shells may not be disposed of in any way other than the container provided.
Any food in a competitor's mouth at the final signal counts toward the final tally if the competitor chews and swallows that portion within 30 seconds.
Competitors may not stuff food into their mouth in the final seconds of the contest to increase their total. Judges have the discretion to impose penalties on those who do so.
If a contestant throws up or regurgitates, he or she is automatically disqualified.
Judges will be on hand to assure adherence to contest rules.
The judges' count will remain final regardless of an apparent miscount or possible erratum in the tally. All decisions by judges are final and conclusive. If any contingencies or disputes arise that are not explicitly covered in the official rules, the judge's decision will stand with the same finality as the rules.
Upon the decision of the judge(s) and/or appointed official(s), the winner will be announced, the trophy awarded, and photographed with the contest sponsor.
